Astigmatism Treatment

Astigmatism is a common refractive error caused by an irregular shape of the cornea or lens. This irregularity leads to blurred or distorted vision at various distances.

Astigmatism arises when the eye is not perfectly round. While this condition is nearly universal to some degree due to the inherent imperfections in our bodies, the severity varies. In a normally shaped eye, resembling a sphere, light entering the eye bends evenly, creating a clear image on the retina. However, in the case of astigmatism, the eye takes on a more football-like shape, causing light to bend unevenly. This asymmetry results in only a portion of the image being in focus at any given time. As a consequence, objects at various distances may appear blurry and distorted.
